If you do not have an Ohio boaters license, anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 will have to take a 10 question multiple choice boaters’ exam and pass with at least a 90% to be able to drive that day. Anyone born before the date mentioned previously is eligible to drive without the exam. Drivers ages 16-17 must be accompanied by their parent/guardian.
We will have the boat docked and ready for your rental at The Old State Park on State Park Dr off of W. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd.
You will return to the docks where you boarded the boat. All trash needs to be bagged and taken with you when you leave the boat. All life jackets can be left on the boat, they do not need to be placed back in the seats. Normal uncleanliness such a dirt and mud from anchor does not apply. If a boat is left unclean there will be a $25 cleaning fee charged and taken from the deposit.
Boats & Floats PLX Rentals is owned and operated by Derrick and Tiffani Athey. Both are lifetime residents of Ohio. Derrick also owns and operates Athey Construction and TIffani is a Registered Nurse.
WHen making your reservation you will follow the link on the boat you want or you can select the specific boat name in which you want to rent. If for some reason a different boat would need to be used. You will be contacted in advance of the change in which you could accept or receive a refund. We try hard to ensure this does not happen, but accidents can happen with renters and boats can be taken out of commission. You will always be given a boat of equal or greater value.
All boat rentals include a full tank of gas. In most cases this will be more than enough gas for a day rental. However, should you need more you are responsible for the cost. There is a gas pump available on the lake located across from the Upper Deck or you can text Boats & Floats ( all numbers are on captain consoles) and fuel can be brought to the dock.
While we hope this never happens, all captain consoles will have the phone number to reach someone to assist you with your problem.
All boats will have a map of the lake located on it. There is also a link on the main page to a map of the lake to look at ahead of time.
All boats had new bluetooth accessible radios and speakers placed on them this year.
The radios do have a USB port that can be used for a phone charger.
Portage Lakes waters are considered state park property and you are not allowed to have alcohol open or unopened on the body of water. There are many different bars and restaurants on the lake in which you can enjoy a drink at!
You may cancel for a full refund up to 48 hours prior to your reservation. Under 48 hours, your reservation can be reschedule if weather does not permit for boats to go out, such as high winds, rain, thunder, lightening. This does not include “gloomy weather” or “temps not as high as expected”. You may reschedule any reservation for any reason prior to 48 hours before reservation day. We do understand that unforeseen circumstances happen, so always feel free to reach out if there is any issue.
At this time we do not allow pets on the boats.
The day you book the boat you will be charged the rental fee plus taxes. The day of your rental there will be a $250 hold on same card used for purchase. This fee is for incidentals. When the boat is returned clean and undamaged the hold will be released. Gas is included in rental fee and DOES NOT COME OUT OF SECURITY DEPOSIT.
The gas for your rental is included in your fee. There will not be an additional charge taken for the use of the gas. There will always be enough gas for the entirety of your rental and you will not need to refuel.
